Halloween Movies To Watch

Genre: Thriller/Horror
Director:
Carlos Ramos Jr.

Cast:
Dean Cain, Stephen Colletti, Masiela Lusha, Johnathan "Lil J" McDaniels, Nick Hogan

As you know, I love horror/thriller books and movies. To keep with the Halloween theme I will be doing some movie reviews and recommendations this month.

Horror/Thriller movie: Kill Katie Malone

Synopsis:

College students and best friends Ginger Matheson, Jim Duncan, and Kyle "Dixie"Canning, pool their cash to buy a "ghost" in an online auction. The three think it's all a goof, but once they open up the antique box to examine their "treasure," they unleash the vengeful spirit of a young girl who has been wreaking havoc on her owners throughout the generations.

Kill Katie Malone will keep you on the edge of your seat struggling to keep the blanket from covering your eyes. This is a very exciting, freakishly horrific movie. Just to think someone could possible buy a possessed item on a site like ebay is eerie enough for me. I haven't seen a movie quite like this one before, so uniqueness is an A+ for me. The characters were believable and you had plenty of time to gain an attachment to the main characters. The plot was spot-on and did not deviate from the main subject line. All in all, this movie is a must watch for all those horror freaks like me out there, or even those who let loose for Halloween and want an adrenaline rush.

Join Rue on the epic journey, 6 books in all, as she struggles with grief, love, humor, old crushes, new-found infatuations, hot boys, AND vampires, lots and lots of them.

Blood and Light by Rue Volley is well worth the read. Rue Volley shows off her creative talent for world building, character development, and being consistent with her plot. Rue incorporates a fantastic sense of wittiness and true emotions within her characters. Once I started reading this story, I did not want to put it down. I wanted it to continue forever. Rue Volley you diffidently deserve a 5 star rating for this read and I want to know when you release upcoming books. Thank you Rue.

When best friends Abby and Lena find an old Polaroid camera at a thrift store, they can't wait to try it out. But strange images appear in the photos--including the troubled, dark face of a boy they've never seen before.
With each photo the boy gets a little clearer, and the girls get more spooked. Is he trying to hurt them? Does he need their help? One thing is certain: Abby and Lena need to get the picture--before it's too late.

I picked up this book at my daughter's school book fair last year. My plans were to read a higher level of books to her, something that we could both enjoy. But the more I looked at it, and read the back of the blurb, the more enticed I became--eventually I just had to sneak-a-peek. Let me tell you, I am glad I did. This book was extremely enjoyable to me and for a Young Adult, I believe they would be just as thrilled as I was to read this story. I love books with some mystery and paranormal aspects within--and this one is perfect. The author did a wonderful job on the characters, plot, and suspense, along with some humor. Definitely a book for your 9-12 year old to read.

Plagued by nightmares of her partner and lover s murder, she has revenge issues of her own. Can she come to terms with her vengeful lust and stop the killer? Or will she be lured into the crystal's blood web?
Review:
The author, Gary Starta, has uniquely envisioned a fantastic Paranormal-Thriller series. I have yet to come across a story quite like this, until now. The aspect of merging Native American history and modern day times, with a twist of the paranormal and a psychotic serial killer on the loose, is spectacular. The story within is just as enticing to me as the tile, Blood Web (which I love). The author has successfully portrayed realistic characters, an amazing plot, and in-depth descriptions ( although somewhat long winded, but necessary to the story-line for a series ). All-in-all I will definitely recommend this book to other readers. Well done, Gary Starta. Thank you for an incredible story. Note: There were some typo's but nothing too serious for the reader to become confused.

Blurb on back of book:

Feisty witch Maggie enjoys her work as a paranormal law enforcement officer—that is, until she's assigned to protect a teenager with major attitude and plenty of Mayan enemies. Maggie's never going to survive this assignment without the help of a half-demon who makes her smolder . . .

Declan is proprietor of an underground club and busy demon portal. No way he'll allow his demon race to be blamed for the malicious acts of some crazy evil Mayans. But he's already got his hands full when the sexy witch offers him a challenge he can't refuse . . .

Amidst the rising flames of their steamy love affair, Maggie and Declan are damned if they do, and even more damned if they don't . . .

Linda Wisdom crafted an amazing, fun, comical, and romantic story with this latest release. Demons Are A Girl's Best Friend is the beginning of a new series but falls perfectly into place with her Hex series. Instead of continuing with Jazz, Blair, and Stasia, Linda ingeniously chose to tell about another witch, Maggie, who is one of the 13 witches expelled from the Witches School in the 1300's for casting a curse on a nobleman. For those of you who love strong, vibrant, kick-ass, heroines, this is the book for you. I promise you will fall head-over-heel for Maggie, as well as, her demon lover, Declan, and the entire realm that Linda Wisdom has envisioned for us. I enjoy reading all of Linda's books, but for some special reason, I am fascinated with Demons Are A Girl's Best Friend, although I have to admit, I did miss the chaotic antics of Fluff and Puff . . . :)

Thank you Linda for such an amazing read. I can always count on your stories to lighten the stress of every day life. You have an awesome gift of a true story-teller.

Great Book!
Again, I am another satisfied reader. I love the story and plot throughout Lost Reflections and Ms. Nowak kept me wanting more and more. I read the entire book in a matter of days and could not put it down. I really liked how Lost Reflections picked up where Fatal Infatuation left off and did not leave a void like some stories do. I love the story line between the characters and can say honestly, I look forward to reading about the vixen as much as the main characters! The only thing I can complain about is the lengthy chapters used to describe one of the main characters past. It seemed to be too much detail and took away from the rest of the story. But, if that is the only complaint then it goes to show how talented Ms. Nowak is! I hope she continues to write and can't wait for more!

Great Read!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Melanie Nowak's Fatal Attraction, in fact it was way better than I had anticipated. It was unlike most other Vampire novels that seems fake and too glamorous. It sucked you in from the beginning! Once I began reading it was hard to put it down; I wanted to finish it to find out what happened next. The plot was nice, and the writing was not redundant, it was very fresh to read. The characters were awesome and made you fall in love with their stories from the beginning. The vixen is even interesting to read about! Overall I would recommend this series to anyone and everyone! I can not wait to read the next books in the series! Keep them coming Ms. Nowak!

Closed for the Season
by Mary Downing Hahn
Sandpiper Publishing
978-0-547-39853-2
YA Mystery/Suspense
$5.99
Rating 4 Blood Drops

The weather-beaten sign on the gate of the Magic Forest says:

CLOSED FOR THE SEASON

But when the boys ride up to it on their bikes, Arthur tells his new friend, Logan, that the old amusement park hasn't been open for years. The overgrown park looks sinister even in broad daylight, so Logan is reluctant to go inside, but Arthur urges him on. He's sure they'll uncover important clues to the mystery they're trying to solve: Who killed Myrtle Donaldson? And what happened to the money she handled as head bookkeeper at the Magic Forest?

Arthur and Logan's quest takes them to the lowest--and highest--levels of society in their small town. The boys must pay another visit to the Magic Forest, this time in the middle of the night. And this time, they find the killer waiting for them. . .

I enjoyed reading Closed for the Season. It's a nice change from my normal genre of books, and I do like a good mystery, whether YA or not. The author, Mary Downing Hahn, knows how to wrap-up her reading audience in an eerie mystery and keep them entertained throughout the pages with an enticing plot. I loved the character development between the two boys, Arthur and Logan. Also, I liked that the author incorporated the pressures of being an outcast in society just by status and appearance, and the way Logan stood up to those individuals and spoke up for his friend, Arthur.
All-in-all this was a marvelous read!

I give this book 4.5 out of 5. I really like this series, but I thought there was just a little too much of Cain's past. It kinda makes you feel like you are reading a different book. Other than that, it's great and I can't wait to read the next one.

I love the way the vampires change their faces and how they turn into dust when you stake them. I'm still missing some more vampire fights, staking, and rogues. Still, it's a great book and a wonderful series to get hooked on.

Blurb:

When little Alice follows the Black Rat down into the gaping darkness of an open grave, she falls and falls. And soon finds herself in an undead nightmare of rotting flesh and insanity. Venturing further into this land of zombies and monsters, she encounters characters both creepy and madcap along the way.

But there's something else troubling poor Alice: her skin is rotting and her hair is falling out. She's cold. And she has the haunting feeling that if she remains in Zombieland any longer, she might never leave.

Can Alice escape Zombieland before the Dead Red Queen catches up to her?

Alice in Zombieland is not your typical childhood fairytale. Even though the storyline is kept pretty much the same, the author adds a demented twist to Alice's “Wonderland”, turning it into a “Horrorland”. It took me sometime to develop an attachment to this version, and the attachment was more of a curiosity. I was curious to see what type of morbid adventures Alice would be taken through and what kind of misfit characters she would meet along the way. I am a fan of Horror, so I did find myself somewhat enjoying this read in a psychotic manner. =)  All the characters, however mentally disturbed, fit perfectly in this freakish land of undead things. So, if you are wanting something familiar, yet truly bizarre, than you need to experience the tale of Alice in Zombieland for yourself.

I have given considerable amount of thought about providing a summary for The Werewolf Upstairs and decided that the blurb on the back of the book wraps it up nicely.

Blurb:
Alpha werewolf Konrad Wolfensen sees it as his duty to protect the citizens of Boston, even if it means breaking into their apartments just to prove their security systems don't work. But when his unsolicited services land him in trouble with the law, he'll have to turn to his sexy new neighbor for help.

Attorney Roz Wells is bored. She used to have such a knack for attracting the weird and unexpected, but ever since she took a job as a Boston public defender, the quirky quotient neighbor starts coming around...

Roz knows she should stay away from this sexy bad boy, but she can't help it that she's putty in his hands...

The Werewolf Upstairs is a highly recommended read! Ashlynn Chase has incorporated ample amount of humor, mystery, and sex within her story about a self-conscious lawyer who rents her best friend's old apartment, 1B, and soon discovers the apartment's ability to draw two strangers together for another love connection. This is now my favorite book and Ashlynn Chase has definitely earned a permanent spot on my book-shelf. I implore you, if you have not read this book or want to experience a new author, please purchase The Werewolf Upstairs. You will not be disappointed.

The 1940’s; a time when mistrust and suspicion run rampant between Earth’s most powerful nations, and the United States and Soviet Union are competing against each other to be the first in space. They will soon learn that an alien race threatens their human existence and their differences as rivals will either cause Earth’s destruction or safeguard their survival.
When an alien spacecraft crashed landed on Earth, seven-year-old Justin Spencer, couldn’t believe his eyes. It wasn’t long before the military stormed in and confiscated the aliens and all the remnants of their spacecraft. However, before the military could apprehend the alien creature, Kraanox, Justin was able to show a sign of friendship by offering Kraanox a slice of his mother’s carrot cake, which the alien immediately became fond of. It was this significant event which sparked his passion that lead to his career path . . . to become a scientist.
First Lieutenant Wayne Bucknell was the commanding officer assigned to investigate the alien crash site and cover-up any knowledge of extraterrestrial life. Upon capture of the alien being, Wayne developed a trusting and strong connection with him, and in time, learned their alien language, as well as, vital information that may help the USA in the future. Kraanox informed Wayne of his planet’s dire need for minerals and of the chaos ensuing his race’s survival from their main threat, the Muurgu. If the Muurgu acquired access to any uranium or plutonium, all could be lost for both planets, Earth and Traanu. Grave is the Day when the Muurgu dominates all.
Grave Is The Day is a superb read! This story is a must read for all the science fiction, extraterrestrial lovers on Earth. The author, Michael Drakich, has embedded the code of morality and philosophical meaning deep within his characters, something we see so few of in our modern day life. The knowledge of how precious all life is and how powerful friendship can be, whether it’s here on Earth or in the heavens, it’s still something to be cherished. Michael Drakich takes the reader straight into the minds of his characters, developing them with each turning page. I admire how this author merged our world history with his imagination of an alien race and expanded upon a lot of “What If’s”. It truly made this a memorable story to read and add to one’s bookshelf. Although this story is Science Fiction, it’s a story I will be passing down to the younger generation in hopes they will learn and understand the meaning behind it. Grave Is The Day has earned my rating of 5 stars! Thank you Michael Drakich.

Fist she gets terminated from her nursing job, then she gets dumped and kicked out of her house by her boyfriend, but Miranda never had time to see the last thing coming. . . even if it did run her over. Like I said, Miranda is having a bad day, and the one good thing about it was Andre, a sizzling hot EMT who thrives on saving as many lives as possible, no matter the cost.

Andre is an EMT and was attracted to Miranda Billings the moment they met. Even with her constant rejections he couldn’t keep Miranda out of his mind, until the fatal accident happened and Andre chose to use his half-demon powers to save her from death. But will Miranda be able to accept what she has become and what Andre has done for her? In the mean time, there is a demon on the loose killing innocent people and it’s up to Andre to prepare for battle and send the demon back to hell . . .  and not get himself killed in the process.

Sweet Release is pure paranormal romance enjoyment. It’s not only a fun read, but ushers two lost souls to find each other in pure bliss. I loved this story, even though it was only 35 pages, it was well written and planned out, and the characters were awe-inspiring. I specifically liked the way the author, Carrie Pulkinen, created her half-demon character, Andre, using tatoo’s as a form of uniqueness. This short story would make a great series for all readers to enjoy, maybe even die for, but only if Andre was there to resuscitate me. =)

She wants to become a more social person, someone who does not hide within her shell around others. And what better place than college for her to do so? Felicity acquires a job at The DownTime Café and Bookstore and quickly makes friends with Ben, an employee at The DownTime and fellow student at the college. However, her adventure into independence is about to take a supernatural turn . . . for there is more at stake than her sociability.
Cain is a three-hundred-forty-year-old vampire who has chosen to live his life without killing humans and offers his knowledge to other vampires who wish to accept his ways. Unfortunately, some newly made vampires are wreaking havoc among the human population of this college town and the one making all the chaos is Sindy. She was a spoiled brat as a human and even more conniving as a vampire. Right now, she wants nothing more than to be claimed by Cain, but a human female has already caught his eye. Cain is infatuated with Felicity and will do anything to protect her, but will Sindy devise a plan to end the passionate connection developing between vampire and human? Or will Felicity and her new friends take matters into their own hands, to rid the town of the zombie-like creatures living there?

Fatal Infatuation is truly a “labor of love” dream, and this is just the beginning of the series for author Melanie Nowak. It’s evident that Melanie has put her heart in soul into creating vivid characters, detailed scenery, and an intricately designed plot, all which come together to make a beautiful and interesting love story between human and vampire. Not only does the reader acquire the sense the intense attraction and growing passion between Cain and Felicity, but Melanie also passed that same feeling onto all her characters. And the best part about this story is the unique twist Melanie has given the Vampires, hence the name Venomous Vampires. Almost Human: Fatal Infatuation Vol. 1, is beyond doubt a series to be read by anyone who is devoted to supernatural romance, and of course, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. ( And yes, I had to mention Buffy! =) ) Keep in mind, this is a planned series of successive trilogies, not stand-alone books. Each trilogy is meant to be read in order, as the story unfolds and the characters continue with each book. You will NOT be disappointed! A MUST READ!
